Denial covers our fears and anxieties. Those are symptoms, not the problem.
Denial is the first barrier that needs to be tackled because it is the brick wall protecting problems from ever being noticed or talked about.
Denial is the easiest route to take because it requires the least amount of effort. By looking the other way, it creates that comfort of “I don’t have to deal with it, so there is no problem” and “it’s never going to happen to me anyway so let others worry about it.”
It's strange how that works isn't it? It should be the other way around. Ignoring a problem should make you feel more uncomfortable. Think about it.
When a city has a good reputation as being safe and having good schools, people may think that acknowledging these problems will bring out a bad name; but this is where you are wrong.
What's going to set a bad reputation is when we let these problems continue over time into something that will become too uncontrollable to solve. Do you want to see that stage? I've yet to see it, but I can predict that it is not going to be pretty.
The only solution I am giving you is this awareness. Awareness is the first step. Your actions are the second step. We all live busy lives. Work is demanding much more of your time away from home; but please, it really should be a “no-brainer:”
—your work? Or your kids?
