How many club drugs are out there?
There is an awful lot, and these drugs are changing every day. The following are some of the most common club drugs.
- MDMA (Ecstasy)
This is a common drug discussed among teenagers in high school. This drug can give someone a dangerous increase in body temperature, which can ultimately lead to liver, kidney, and cardiovascular system failure. This “ecstasy,” “xtc,” and “hug drug” can kill you.
- GHB
“Liquid ecstasy,” “soap,” “easy lay,” or “vita-G” is used for its euphoric, sedative, and body building effects. This drug can lead to seizures and coma. The combination with other drugs can cause nausea and breathing difficulties. This drug is involved in poisoning, overdoses, date rapes, and deaths.
- Ketamine
Also known as “special k” and “vitamin k”, this drug causes dream-like states and hallucinations. But with those highs, the drug also causes delirium, amnesia, loss of coordination, high blood pressure, depression, respiratory problems, and death.
- Rohypnol
Also known as “roofies,” “roach,” and “rope,” this drug produces an amnesia where you cannot remember the events you experienced under the drug. This drug can be lethal when taken with alcohol and other depressants.

What you should know
These drugs can kill you. They can be slipped into a drink without anyone ever knowing because most of these club drugs are colorless, tasteless, and odorless. These drugs made a name for themselves as being “date rape” drugs.
Is your young teen going to clubs and raves instead of their friends’ house for the night? Know that your child doesn’t have to be a voluntary user for these drugs. They can be a victim too.
