Don't turn your back. The problems still exist.

Like most drugs, heroin use is a gamble. It doesn't give many second chances to live.

Problems

Substance Abuse / heroin

Why?

According to the Livonia Observer, heroin could have been the reason for a dozen deaths that have occurred within the past year. Are you asking yourself why?

What you should know

  • It's cheap, risky, and easy to obtain
Unlike other drugs, heroin is inexpensive and readily available. Commonly called as junk, brown sugar, dope, skag, and horse, heroin’s purity is hard to determine because it is commonly mixed in with other drugs. Therefore, a user never really knows what they are buying. Because of its addictive quality, a heroin user won’t think twice about what is in their buy.
  • It's disgusting, but users want that “rush”
Heroin, which is sold as a white or brown powder, can be injected, snorted, and smoked. Injection is popular because it gives the greatest euphoria “rush”, which can be felt within seconds. It's this rush that temporarily removes all pain and mood. More of the drug is always needed with each use to get this feeling time and time again.
  • It's powerful, controlling, and just darn right sneaky
After their rush, a user goes through a lot of life-threatening problems. A user's mental thinking, cardiac function, and respiration will slow down. This slow breathing can cause death.

The affects of heroin disappear within a few hours, making a user hard to identify. However, a heroin user may start having withdrawal symptoms within 24 hours after their use. According to NIDA, these symptoms would include drowsiness, restlessness, muscle and bone pain, diarrhea, vomiting, cold flashes, and uncontrollable leg movements.
  • A user doesn't care about anything else
A user knows the risks, but they don't care about the fact that heroin use makes them more vulnerable to diseases, infections, poor health, and just a miserable life. A user doesn’t care that they will ruin their relationships with friends and family. A user doesn’t care if they die.

They just want one more buzz…just one more time. They're going to do whatever it takes to get it. They will steal, kill, or sell themselves for another high of this extremely addicting drug.—and it's going to be that “one more buzz” that kills them.

It takes one time

The #1: it's a quick number to count to and a good number to remember when I say this: It takes just ONE experimentation with heroin to get hooked.

If that doesn't scare you, then you should also know that it takes just ONE experimentation to die from heroin.
